Local Food & Farming Issues in Southern Illinois
There are many issues to consider when it comes to local food in Southern Illinois. But first, it's good to know who is growing the food that we eat. Not every farmer or producer has a website up right now, but below you will find a few to learn about. On top of the growers, there are many issues to learn about, such as those included in the Illinois Local Food, Farms & Jobs report. This report goes into great detail about the many state-wide food issues going on in Illinois. For a closer look at local and regional food issues in Southern Illinois issues, visit Food Works ... a not-for-profit whose mission is "local food systems development for Southern Illinois." Check out our profile on Chef Bill Connors, who is a passionate advocate for local food issues in the region and throughout the state. Again, please look at the list below to get a little better sense of what some of our local growers are up to. Not all of them sell to the Co-op, but many do on a seasonal basis. And keep checking back to learn more!
